If you need to silence a crowd, put Katie Rushing on the stage. Her unmistakable voice is clear but earthy, imbued with wit and an actor’s sense of timing. Funny but never flippant, soulful but wary of taking herself too seriously, Katie is beloved amongst Houston’s top players, who respect her songwriting chops, dynamic vocals, and easy presence.

Folk, pop, rock, country: Katie moves seamlessly through it all, as she brings characters and stories vividly to life. An in-demand performing singer-songwriter and Houston native who studied music at the University of Cincinnati, Katie is also a natural teacher, and prioritizes joy over rigid structure.

At Bojangles, we trust Katie with students of all ages––especially our youngest players, eager for first experiences with lessons. She teaches vocals, ukulele, and beginner piano. “My hope is that students learn that music can become your best friend,” Katie says. “It is an art form and mode of expression that can carry you through life’s highs and lows. Exploring how you connect to music is an adventure waiting to be had. We are most successful and learn best when we are having fun––so fun we will have!”
