Sean Cook
Instructor
When Sean Cook was 16 years old, he couldn’t play guitar enough. What began as a hobby became an obsession, and soon, he was playing up to 7 hours a day––10 on the weekend. Sean decided to pursue music professionally, and played his first gigs as a teenager around Cypress in venues including Concert Pub North, Acadia, and BFE. He began teaching as well, and quickly discovered that guiding other players was just as rewarding as taking the stage––just in different ways.
At Bojangles, Sean teaches beginner and intermediate guitar, as well as ukulele. He’s patient, encouraging, and driven, which makes him especially good with aspiring players who have little to no experience. As a performer, Sean is launching two new groups that reflect his expanding musicality: In one he handles guitar, while in the other, he alternates between bass and drums.
When teaching, Sean believes the secret to success is not just skilled instruction, but instilling a sense of anticipation and curiosity in his students.
“The thing I love most about teaching is it creates an environment where everyone is learning––the teachers just as much as the students,” Sean says. “The most important thing I want my students to gain from lessons is not just to enjoy learning, but to get excited about it.”
